KK UNİVERSAL TURİZM KONAKLAMA GAYRİMENKUL VE GELİŞTİRME A.Ş.
SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK
1. OUR STRATEGIC APPROACH: LONG-TERM VALUE
KK UNİVERSAL TURİZM KONAKLAMA GAYRİMENKUL VE GELİŞTİRME A.Ş. ("KK Universal"); we regard sustainability not merely as an environmental obligation, but as an integral part of our Durability vision in the real estate and accommodation sector. We do not simply build our projects; we design and operate them as living ecosystems that will generate value for decades and contribute to the environment and society.
Our sustainability policy is built on an understanding of development that allows us to meet today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We carry this responsibility at every stage of the "Built. Owned. Operated." cycle and aim to include our employees, suppliers and stakeholders in these principles.
This framework encompasses a commitment to full compliance with applicable national legislation and relevant international standards. Our sustainability performance is regularly monitored, reported and shared with our stakeholders.
2. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Energy Efficiency
- High energy-efficiency materials are preferred in project development and construction processes; during the operational phase, energy consumption is monitored in real time and optimised using smart building technologies and IoT-based systems.
- Energy-saving and LED technology is the basis for lighting systems; motion sensor and timer-controlled systems are applied.
- Transition processes to renewable energy sources are actively planned and implemented.
- Carbon footprint calculations are carried out regularly; carbon emission reduction targets are set and tracked.
Water Management
- Water-saving fixtures and systems are used in the assets operated; rapid response procedures are applied for water leaks.
- Water consumption is measured and reported periodically; reduction targets compared to the previous period are set.
- Guests and employees are informed about water conservation.
Waste Management
- The necessary infrastructure is established for the separation and recycling of glass, paper, plastic and organic waste; licensed firms are engaged.
- Single-use plastic consumption is minimised; alternatives made from durable and sustainable materials are preferred.
- Hazardous waste is managed through licensed firms to be disposed of without causing environmental harm.
- Circular economy principles are integrated into every stage of operations in line with the Zero Waste target.
Chemical Management
- Biodegradable and environmentally friendly chemicals are preferred in cleaning and maintenance processes.
- Chemical use is kept to a minimum through dosing systems and regular personnel training.
3. CULTURAL HERITAGE AND URBAN MEMORY
- The restoration and preservation of historic buildings is one of KK Universal's strongest sustainability commitments; the principle of "renewing while preserving the original and its artistic value" is taken as a guide in all restoration projects.
- Local architectural identity, material choices and design language are preserved in the projects developed; the continuity of urban memory is ensured.
- Cultural values at the locations where we operate are introduced to guests and stakeholders; experiences that keep the cultural and historical heritage of the region alive are supported.
- Priority is given to operating models that will not harm natural and cultural heritage sites.
4. SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Local suppliers and local products are preferred where not strictly necessary otherwise; this preference both reduces carbon emissions and supports the regional economy.
- Suppliers are expected to work in compliance with the sustainability policy; this obligation is reflected in contractual processes.
- Energy-efficient options are evaluated for purchased electronic equipment and devices.
- Recycled or recyclable materials are preferred; an inventory of all suppliers and products is maintained.
5. DIGITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT AND PAPERLESS OPERATIONS
- Paper consumption is reduced to near zero by using digital workflows in all processes from guest reception to invoicing.
- Server capacities and cloud-based systems are optimised so that the digital carbon footprint is monitored and reported.
- Energy-efficiency-certified solutions are preferred in data centre and technology infrastructure selections.
6. SOCIAL IMPACT AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT
- Local employment is prioritised in the regions where we operate; the contribution of projects to the regional economy is measured and reported.
- Zero tolerance is shown towards child labour, forced labour, harassment, human trafficking and all forms of exploitation.
- Employment of women and disabled employees is actively supported; workforce diversity is monitored.
- Support is provided to social responsibility projects and civil society organisations.
- Dialogue mechanisms are established with local communities; social needs are reflected in project design.
7. GOVERNANCE AND TRANSPARENCY
- All investment processes and operational data are managed transparently; regular and honest reporting is provided to stakeholders.
- Full compliance with global sustainability criteria and ethical business models is ensured in international business partnerships (Marriott, Okura, etc.).
- Sustainability performance is reviewed periodically and improvement targets are set.
- Employees are provided with training on sustainability policy and practices upon commencement of employment and on a periodic basis thereafter.
8. OUR SUSTAINABILITY TARGETS
- Measurable reduction targets compared to the previous period are set annually for energy, water and natural gas consumption.
- Recycling rates and waste volumes are monitored and regular reporting is carried out.
- Local supplier and local employment rates are measured annually.
- Concrete steps are taken towards carbon neutralisation targets and shared with the public.
- This framework is reviewed at least every two years; compliance with current legislation and international standards is ensured.
